Mission Statement: Epona Equine Rescue & Rehab is dedicated to improving the quality of life for horses and livestock, thereby improving the lives of people through their experiences with the animals.
Adoption Policy
1. Application Process
Eligibility: Potential adopters must be 21 years of age or older.
Application Form: Complete the adoption application form available on our website.
Background Check: Consent to a background check to ensure no history of animal abuse or neglect.
Veterinary Reference: Provide contact information for your current or past veterinarian.
Personal Reference: Provide at least two personal references.
2. Adoption Criteria
Home Inspection: Agree to a pre-adoption home inspection to ensure suitable living conditions for the horse.
Experience: Demonstrate adequate knowledge and experience in horse care and handling.
Financial Stability: Provide proof of financial ability to care for a horse, including regular veterinary care, farrier visits, feed, and housing.
Facility Requirements: Ensure the property has appropriate fencing, shelter, and pasture space.
3. Adoption Agreement
Adoption Fee: Pay a non-refundable adoption fee, which helps cover the costs of the horse’s care while at Epona.
Return Policy: Agree that if the adopter can no longer care for the horse, it must be returned to Epona Equine Rescue & Rehab.
No Breeding: Horses adopted from Epona are not to be used for breeding purposes.
No Sale or Transfer: Horses adopted from Epona cannot be sold, leased, or transferred to another party without the consent of Epona Equine Rescue & Rehab.
4. Post-Adoption Requirements
Veterinary Care: Commit to regular veterinary care, including vaccinations, dental care, and any necessary medical treatments.
Farrier Care: Ensure the horse receives regular hoof care from a qualified farrier.
Nutrition: Provide a balanced diet appropriate for the horse’s age, breed, and health status.
Exercise and Enrichment: Ensure the horse receives regular exercise and mental stimulation.
Safety: Maintain safe and secure housing and handling practices to prevent injury or escape.
5. Consequences for Non-Compliance
Violation Notification: If any part of the adoption policy is violated, the adopter will receive a written notification outlining the specific issue.
Resolution Period: The adopter will have 30 days to rectify the issue or provide an acceptable explanation.
Reclamation of Horse: If the issue is not resolved within the given timeframe, Epona Equine Rescue & Rehab reserves the right to reclaim the horse.
Legal Action: In cases of severe neglect, abuse, or breach of the adoption agreement, Epona may pursue legal action to ensure the horse’s safety and well-being.
